Today my Ubuntu install has been removed. I seem to have been too long in this fluffy, overly pampered, safe environment.
Ubuntu is a marketing product, its owner is incredibly rich and after reading this I suddenly woke up.
Specially the quote “Ubuntu is the New Debian.” was an eye-opener for me.
Also the Canonical and Linspire Announce Technology Partnership news made me doubt.
The install of Debian Etch took me about one hour and managed to set up the needed drivers and beryl without too many problems.
The difference between Debian and Ubuntu is, except for losing the addictive bleeding edge candy store, a priceless feeling of having shaken off the Ubuntu marketing machine.
Free at last!
I’m sorry if my thoughts drove you off the cliff, figuratively speaking.
Ubuntu is not the new Debian in anything except the fact that some of the distros that were based off of Debian are now based off of Ubuntu.
Debian rocks! Good luck with everything
