(This is not a howto)
I installed Ubuntu 7.04 beta 1 just to see if it all works.
I used the alternative install, “just a matter of preference”, and kept my /home partition in tact as usual.
Installation went fine, but when I was done the resolution was too low: 1280×1024, I wanted 1400×1050
First I decided to try the “Restricted Drivers Manager”. Its in System > Administration.
This easy to use tool installed and set The NVidia driver up, (it also told me to reboot after), but did not fix my resolution.
For that I ran: ‘sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg’, running the defaults, choosing for the NVidia-driver and choosing for 1400×1050 in the resolutions.
After that i restarted X and finalized my resolution setup in System > Preferences> Screenresolution.
The installation of the NVidia driver also sets up the universe and multiverse repository automatically.
Good stuff!
Now for a new meta package: ubuntu-restricted-extras.
It installs java, flash, microsoft corefonts, mp3 support and more packages I yet have to check
Great meta package.
Next I tried Preferences > Desktop Effects (Compiz)
All Compiz effects work except for cube
All I have left to do now is to get “the cube” going and to install some packages I need.
Ubuntu Feisty is again an improvement to its previous version and very easy to install and set-up.
Tuxicity
*Note: The cube not working is a bug, see launchpad, a fix is mentioned, My cube works now
.
thanks for the link to the mentioned fix. I’ve been wondering why the cube won’t do anything on a Feisty install.
