Howto: cursor-candy with Gcursor in Ubuntu6.10 (edgy)

Filed under: Tuxicity, Ubuntu — tuxicity @ 9:43 am

Cursors can get boring, specially the default ones.

So its time to create some cursor-candy on the desktop 🙂

First make sure to have the universe repository enabled.

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install gcursor

Now you can find gcursor in your menu under :

system > Preferences > Cursor selection

When you open it you can see some cursors where you can select from, good start but there is more….

The real joy comes from the “install theme” button.

To install a new cursor theme its best to have a look at the X11 Mouse Themes in Gnome.look.org

One of my favorite cursors are the Flatbed Cursors

All you need to do now is download the cursors
If you want the lefthanded ones select the LH package

Now you can use the Xcursorselector:

In menu :

system > Preferences > Cursor selection

Click the install theme button,
Now select the downloaded flatbedcursors-0.1.tar.bz2,
click ok,
And the cursor-theme will be installed for you

No more boring-cursors 🙂
