Envy, a great installer for the latest ATI and Nvidia graphic drivers in Ubuntu.

Filed under: Kubuntu, Tuxicity, Ubuntu, xubuntu — tuxicity @ 7:18 am

I use Envy to install the Nvidia-driver for me, and I like it from the moment I tried it.

At first you had to drop to a TTY to make it work, and work it did!
It installed for me the latest Nvidia-driver without any glitches.

Now Envy is maturing: currently it has a Gui and it not only can install Nvidia-drivers (also the legacy drivers), it can also install Ati drivers for you, handling all needed dependencies and configurations.

Alberto Milone is constantly improving his application; if you look for an easy installer for your Ati or nvidia card Go for Envy 🙂

Unfortunately Envy is not supporting Feisty yet.

  1. I would like to wait until Envy is supported on Feisty too.

  2. Wow, this program is amazing! I’ve been having a ton of problems setting up my nvidia card and this program set it up within about 10 minutes.

  3. RTFM! Linux should not be like windows and it’s not! Do it yourself as it helps you to learn about your system! The drivers are easy to install once you get a hang of it!

  4. Most people dont care and want things to run smoothly, I have installed countless cards manually and still get problems. automation is king!

So what you are basically saying windows is user friendly and linux is not and as a result users should have to learn how to quote “get the hang of installing drivers”, this implies multiple attempts…

Some people really have more important things to do with their time.

  6. Actually, Mr. Milone has added support for Feisty now and has removed support of Dapper. See it here at http://www.albertomilone.com/nvidia_scripts1.html
