Dell and Linux, Chocolate or Vanilla?

Filed under: Dell, linux, Tuxicity — tuxicity @ 8:32 am

Dell is still on its (fake?) quest for a Linux Pre-installed Computer.

Now the community is fighting about Flavors.

My suggestion:

Go for a well known distro like SUSE Ubuntu of Linspire, or whatever, as long as its a BIG distro which appeals to the general public and NOT the communities ego’s.

Mark Shuttleworth:

“Worse, we are not “Linux” users, we are users who want version 6.06.1 of Ubuntu, or 10.2 of SuSE, or Fedora 6. We want a specific distro, and in many cases also a specific VERSION of that distro.”

Exactly so and I wholeheartedly agree.

The hardware compatibility is what the discussion should be about:

An experienced user of Linux will replace the pre-installed Flavor to his/her costum needs anyway.

Tuxicity.
